Construction Design Management (CDM) 2015
The Construction Design and Management (CDM) Regulations 2015 are applied to construction projects. In such circumstances, ENGIE Fabricom has responsibilities under the duties of designers as defined in CDM. The principal duty is to provide a solution which is ‘safe by design’. To achieve this, we follow the industry recognised six step hazard study philosophy, undertaking HAZID, HAZOP and other design reviews at pertinent points in the design process.
We can typically assume the roles of Principal Designer and / or Principal Contractor as the project expands and becomes notifiable to the HSE. Due to our end to end capability, ENGIE Fabricom is ideally placed to manage CDM due to a greatly simplified interface between our engineers and construction teams. We utilise a range of qualitative and quantitative risk assessment techniques throughout a project life cycle in order to assess, mitigate and manage the risks that are manifest.

Principal Designer and Contractor
A Principal Designer is an organisation or individual appointed by the client to take control of the design phase of any project involving more than one contractor.
Principal Designers have an important role in influencing how risks to health and safety are managed throughout a project. Design decisions made during the pre-construction phase have a significant influence in ensuring the project is delivered in a way that secures the health and safety of everyone affected by the work.
A Principal Contractor is appointed by the client to control the construction phase of any project involving more than one contractor. They have an important role in managing health and safety risks during the construction phase so they must have the skills, knowledge, experience and, where relevant, organisational capability to carry out this work.
ENGIE Fabricom has the skills and capability to undertake both of these roles.
