Matt Welch, HSE Manager East Region will be taking on this year’s Ironman event in Bolton on 16th July. The Triathlon consists of a 2.4 mile (3.86 km) swim, a 112 mile (180.25 km) bike ride and a marathon 26.22 mile (42.20 km) run, raced in that order, without a break.
Matt will begin the tough race in the lake at Bolton’s Pennington Flash country park before embarking on a 2-loop journey through Lancashire’s countryside, which will include the famous Sheep House Lane climb, twice. The final discipline, the run begins at the Macron Stadium before heading into Bolton town centre, where he will complete three loops of a circuit before finishing in Le Mans Crescent.
Matt has been training hard over the past year for this event and is fundraising for the charity When You Wish Upon A Star. This is a local charity whose aim is to grant the wishes of children between the ages of 2 – 16 years old living with life threatening illnesses.
