The ENGIE Charity Golf Day 2019 was held on Friday 19th July and this year was in aid of Mind, Macmillan and the Princes Trust.

  • Mind provide advice and support to empower anyone experiencing a mental health problem.  They campaign to improve services, raise awareness and promote understanding.  They won’t give up until everyone experiencing a mental health problem gets support and respect

  • In 1976, HRH The Prince of Wales had a bold idea.  Having completed his duty in the Royal Navy, His Royal Highness became dedicated to improving the lives of disadvantaged young people in the UK.  He founded Prince’s Trust to deliver on that commitment

  • Since Douglas Macmillan founded Macmillans charity in 1911, they have grown to be the UK’s leading source of cancer support, helping more and more people living with cancer, all with your help

The venue for the ENGIE Charity Golf Day  was the Shire London.  The Shire London, Hertfordshire is a 27 hole club; 18 hole, par 72 (7028 yard) Seve Masters Course and the 9 hole academy course.  A private, parkland golf course and the only golf course designed by Seve Ballesteros in the UK.  Immaculately conditioned.  No two consecutive holes the same par.  Six threes, six fours, six fives, links holes, parkland holes, and dramatic water holes.  The competition consisted of 96 golfers making 24 x 4 person teams.  The format for the day was a Stapleford Am/Am better ball competition with 2 golfers to score on every hole and 4 to count on the difficult 18th water hole.

The teams were made up of ENGIE employees, clients, vendors and sponsors.

ENGIE Fabricom was invited to attend and sported a four man team consisting of Andrew Kofoed, Principle Mechanical Engineer, Paul Croft, C&I Engineering Manager, Mark Bryant, Interim Commercial Director and Lee Taylor, Senior Process Engineer.

The team ‘All FORE One’ were of mixed abilities, but more than made up for their handicaps with boundless enthusiasm on the day.  The weather was changeable with a chance of rain.  The first 5 holes remained dry, but eventually the rain and wind started.  Needless to say the standard of golf dropped considerably during the rain and wind, particularly for many of the players on the course who hadn’t brought an umbrella or waterproofs.  However team ‘All FORE One’ kept there sprits high and Andrew Kofoed even managed to get his first Eagle on the day.  Although no single individual scored very high, there was consistent play, with team mates filling in for each other when anyone faltered.  As a team they managed a respectable 84 points when they finally walked off the 18th green 5.5 hours later.

None of the team expected to win, but as whispers and gossip started to spread in the clubhouse, it became apparent that 84 was a pretty good score.  It wasn’t until the meal and prize giving that ENGIE Fabricom realised that ‘All FORE One’ had a real chance of winning.

When Graham Oxley, ENGIE Managing Director – Energy with Services announced the third place score was 81, ‘All FORE One’ knew they were in the prizes.  When Graham invited ENGIE Fabricom up to collect first prize, none of the team could believe they had won.

Jade Boggust, ENGIE Business Development Manager was the key organiser of the event and later told Andrew that ENGIE had raised circa £4,500 for the chosen charities. (Picture below shows Andrew Kofoed, Mark Bryant, Paul Croft, Jade Boggust, Graham Oxley and Lee Taylor)

The event also proved to be an excellent opportunity to network with other parts of the ENGIE business and establish some new contacts.

Needless to say ENGIE Fabricom intends to take part in 2020 to defend their title.
